   The benefits are additional exposure and an increase in traffic. All the studies done so far show that doing SEO and PPC together is a Good Thing. Here’s a quote from a Mediapost article about it:

   "Running natural and paid search together (versus running them alone) in an integrated manner will drive superior results for branding and lead generation. When appearing in both natural and paid search for the same keyword impression, clicks lifted 92 percent, actions lifted 45percent, orders lifted 45 percent, page views lifted 44 percent, visitors increased by 41 percent, and time on site increased by 40 percent."

   It all depends on who you use to carry the seo and sem for you, to be honest. I used a company (below) who optimised my pages and redesigned a few of them too, all for under 600.
   Previously, I had wild quotes from ‘other’companies who were charging 10,000 upwards, who were basically doing the same thing as what I got for 600. (Oh by the way, and thats UK Pound).
   Once the work was done I started to see positive results within about 3 weeks. Now, 2 months on, and my web statistics are:
   Visitor Count: Up 80%
   Sales: Up 40%
   Returning Visitors: Up 65%
   So you see, it does work. At the time I couldn’t afford to go down the PPC route, but have contaced the company I used for the seo (below), and they are going to set a campaign up for me in the next week or so. Can’t wait to see what happens!

   SEM has an instant effect whereas organic SEO takes a long time to see results. Both have their place in online marketing.
